Born and raised in Kansas, Dr. Alex Betzen grew up in the Kansas City area. Dr. Betzen received a B.S. in Biology with a minor in Leadership Studies from Kansas State University before starting veterinary school. While in veterinary school at Kansas State, he developed an interest in exotics, both companion and zoo. He was recognized for excellence in exotic animal medicine, proficiency in small animal medicine and surgery and compassion in handling clinical patients during his senior year in veterinary school. His special interests include emergency medicine, gastroenterology, dentistry and nutritional management of disease. Dr. Betzen completed a one-year rotating small animal internship at a busy referral and emergency practice in San Diego, CA. It was hard to leave the beautiful weather in San Diego, but Dr. Betzen has been practicing in the Houston area for the last 5 years. He's excited to be joining the team at Prestonwood Animal Hospital. Dr. Betzen is a member of the AVMA, TVMA, and HCVMA. Dr. Betzen is an avid road cyclist, enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter and dog, Hank. Anytime spend outside is time well spent! He and his wife are also enthusiastic movie buffs.
